Industrial Eng’g students claim multiple awards in an int’l research conference

Four teams composed of BS-Industrial Engineering students reaped awards in the 15th African International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management. The conference was held from April 23-25, 2024.

In the Siemens-sponsored undergraduate student competition, the team of Trisha Maye C. Almendares, Ma. Camille Beatrice M. Concepcion, Andrea Marie A. Nolido, and Wayne Nicole T. Salvador won the first place with their study entitled “Analysis of Filipino Consumer Perception on Shopping Using Credit Cards in the Philippines: A Multiple Regression Approach.”

The team was guided by Mr. Yoshiki B. Kurata, Laboratory Assistant of the Department of Industrial Engineering and an Academic Researcher of the Research Center for Social Sciences and Education (RCSSEd).

The team of Gerald M. Araco, Francis Miguel C. Flores, Andre Louis C. Ollica, Ralph Daniel C. Paglinawan bagged the third place in the same competition with their paper entitled “A Brewing Solution: Utilizing Spent Coffee Grounds as an Alternative Biomass Fuel.” Engr. Damirson A. Co, MSIE, PIE served as their adviser.

In the undergraduate student research competition, Lloyd D. Atienza, Scheneil Mae A. Belmonte, Carl Joaquin Campos, and Jose Jhudiel M. Canlas received the second place after presenting their paper entitled “Determining Environmental Factors Affecting Academic Performance of 4th Year Industrial Engineering Students: An Experimental Student.” They were guided by Engr. Jesselyn B. Alcain, MS.

Lastly, in the human factors and ergonomics competition sponsored by CINTAS, Mary Angela P. Aquino, Gillian Hailey E. Dave, Eloiza Jane C. Fadri, and Avienne A. Halabaso won the first place for their paper entitled “Perceived Adoption Behavior of Filipinos to the Utilization of Online Banking and E- Wallet Payment Transactions.” They were also guided by Engr. Alcain.

The conference theme was “Shaping the future of Industry 5.0 in Operational Systems” and it was hosted by the University of South Africa (UNISA).
