MALANA, Joemarie T.

Joemarie Tonog Malana is a registered medical technologist in the Philippines and a faculty member of the UST Department of Medical Technology. He is also currently the Medical Technology Clinical Internship Coordinator. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in medical technology obtained from Cagayan State University (Andrews Campus) and Philippine Women’s University, respectively. Currently, he is taking up Doctor of Philosophy major in Medical Technology at the UST Graduate School.

Mr. Malana is also an HIV and other STIs proficient analyst and a drug proficient analyst certified by the National Reference Laboratory-SACCL and National Reference Laboratory-EAMC, respectively. Previously, he served as the assistant quality management representative of the UST Faculty of Pharmacy, Quality Assurance and Training Officer of Medi Linx Laboratory, Inc., and Senior Medical Technologist for Molecular Pathology and Training Officer of Makati Medical Center’s Department of Pathology and Laboratories.

His research interests include molecular study of thalassemia, infectious diseases, solid tumors, and quality management. His previous research work on alpha-thalassemia paved way for him to win the 2017 Global Young Investigator Travel Award by the Association for Molecular Pathology in Berlin, Germany.

He is a regular member of the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists, Inc. and the Philippine Association of Schools of Medical Technology and Public Health.
